Nachdem schon die Meldung die Runde machte, der Iran habe die Lust an der Fortsetzung der Gespräche mit den USA verloren, meldete sich heute der politische Berater des Sprechers des Nationalen Sicherheitsrates des Irans, Mohsen Hakim, zu Wort, um das Gegenteil zu beteuern.

Political Advisor to the Speaker of the Supreme Islamic Iraqi Council (SIIC) Mohsen Hakim said on Monday that there is no reason to delay the next round of talks between Iran and the US on Iraq’s security. …

He assessed the results of three rounds of discussions between Iran and the US on Iraq’s security as positive, expressing hope that the fourth round of talks will give momentum to this process. (IRNA 1)

Nun ist Herr Hakim nicht unbedingt eine bedeutende Figur im Machtapparat des Irans und man fragt sich ein wenig, wer ihn wohl vorgeschickt haben mag, um die Erwartung einer neuen Runde von Gesprächen in Bagdad wach zu halten.

Außenminister Manouchehr Mottaki, ein paar Ränge höher als Hakim, klang da am Vormittag noch ganz anders.

Warum erst später?

Iranian officials have complained that the US made unfounded allegations over supporting Iraqi insurgents and that they got to believe that the former talks with US officials in Baghdad have been ineffective to give up their accusations.

Die USA haben in den letzten Wochen verschiedentliche anklingen lassen, der Rückgang der Gewalt im Irak sei u.a. auch auf die konstruktive Rolle Teherans zurückzuführen, aber das ist offensichtlich wohl nicht genug.

Der jüngste Zwischenfall im Persischen Golf wird zusätzlich die Stimmung in Teheran nicht gerade verbessert haben.
