Iran-Krise

Der Großteil dessen, was US Präsident George Bush in der vergangenen Nacht zu seiner neuen alten Irak Politik der amerikanischen Fernsehnation mitzuteilen hatte, war vor ab schon bekannt geworden. Mit einer Ausnahme. Gegenüber dem Iran (und Syrien) schlug er Töne an, die in dieser Schärfe nicht unbedingt erwartet wurden.

Succeeding in Iraq also requires defending its territorial integrity and stabilizing the region in the face of extremist challenge. This begins with addressing Iran and Syria. These two regimes are allowing terrorists and insurgents to use their territory to move in and out of Iraq. Iran is providing material support for attacks on American troops. We will disrupt the attacks on our forces. We will interrupt the flow of support from Iran and Syria. And we will seek out and destroy the networks providing advanced weaponry and training to our enemies in Iraq.

We are also taking other steps to bolster the security of Iraq and protect American interests in the Middle East. I recently ordered the deployment of an additional carrier strike group to the region. We will expand intelligence sharing and deploy Patriot air defense systems to reassure our friends and allies. We will work with the governments of Turkey and Iraq to help them resolve problems along their border. And we will work with others to prevent Iran from gaining nuclear weapons and dominating the region.

Von einer “Einbinden” des Irans in eine Lösung für den Irak, wie es die Baker/Hamilton Kommission noch empfohlen hatte, kann keine Rede mehr sein. Im Gegenteil.

Die Konfrontation gegenüber dem Iran soll verschärft werden und es werden Vorbereitungen für eine mögliche militärische Auseinandersetzung getroffen: die Verlegung von Flugzeugträgern an den Golf, Austausch von Geheimdienstinformationen über den Iran sowie die Stationierung von Patriot Missiles.

All dies ist noch kein Krieg gegen den Iran, aber sollten die USA solch einen Krieg führen wollen, würden wohl ähnliche Vorbereitungen getroffen.

Aufhorchen lässt zudem die Formulierung

We will interrupt the flow of support from Iran and Syria. And we will seek out and destroy the networks providing advanced weaponry and training to our enemies in Iraq.

Was genau ist damit gemeint? Nach amerikanischer Darstellung werden irakische Aufständische vom Iran mit Geld und Waffen unterstützt. Spezialeinheiten der iranischen Revolutionären Garden sind im Irak aktiv und bieten Aufständischen auch Trainingsmöglichkeiten in Camps innerhalb des Irans.

Sollen die Angehörigen der Revolutionären Garden in Zukunft verhaftet, möglicherweise sogar attackiert werden? Sind Aktionen gegen die Ausbildungslager auf iranischem Boden geplant?
